Lucius Klobučník, ESR 15 was invited to deliver a presentation of his paper on the topic “Collective Management of Online Music Rights in the EU – Lack of Innovative Response to Disruptive Technologies?” at the Conference on Innovation and Communications Law (CICL) at the Bocconi University in Milan, 3 – 4 May 2018 within the panel on Copyright and Digital Disruption. ESR 15 discussed how the incumbent entities in the licensing market for online use of musical works embrace innovation and enhance cooperation in order to respond to disruptive changes connected to digital distribution of copyright protected works. Main focus was on the recent and potential changes in the EU copyright law and their impact on a licensing landscape for digital exploitation of musical works as well as on emergence of new licensing platforms and their legal regulation.

The presentation was followed by a vivid discussion among panel members and audience consisting of EU and US copyright and communication law scholars as well as representatives of technology companies involved in digital dissemination of copyright protected works.
